For those that are surprised there are layoffs ... what do you think "synergies" means when bantered about by the overly rich?

Anybody hearing XM jocks working live this afternoon? High Standards sounds lightly voice-tracked, though it's a fresh show.

Synergies are one thing. Slaughtering most of the programming staff of one service rather than integrating some of them with the other is just not right. Especially when the two services had completely different programming philosophies with regards to music programming.

With the exception of the select few music programming VPs that have already been named, it seems like a good portion of the remaining XM programming folks are being slashed. As an XM subscriber for over 6 years, after seeing change like this, it's not making me hopeful that I'll like the end results once the music channels between the two services become one.

I'm willing to give it a chance... but I'm ready to kill my subs if I don't like what I hear.

MikeV, I could not agree more, you said it better than I could have for sure. There is no reason why they can't integrate across both platforms channels from each. The risk here of alienating many XM'ers is huge. The decision is totally crazy. I understand they have to merge the operation, but they could have done so and still maintained the integrity of many of the XM channels. In other words, give up channel on both sides and keep channel from both sides. Not just destroy all of XM's programming. It really pisses me off because even though I have been a Sirius supporter, I like my XM music.

Yea, if this were a true 50-50 merger maybe. I remember Mel in the FCC hearings answering a chairman's question, something like "ok, so who has the 51% stake?" (she said it somewhat jokingly). Mel stated that it was very plainly 50-50.

Now does any of this look 50-50 to you? Monopolies help NO ONE except the corporation!!
