Default SL2 Antenna issues with microSD installed

Anyone else having this problem or know a fix for it?

If I insert my 8gb microSD card (with a proper power off/on to do it), my SL2 starts skipping and searching for signal. It starts off slowly skipping like a scratched CD then after an hour or so it gets bad enough that no music is played at all..."Acquiring signal" yet when I go to Settings>>Device>>Antenna Aiming it shows decent signal strength

Internet radio works fine if I switch to it with the microSD installed when satellite is acting up

As soon as I power off and remove the card my satellite radio reception works perfectly 1or2 of 3 bars which was normal for my old SL10 which used the exact same antenna & wiring so I know its not my antenna that is the problem.

When I power off, remove the SD, start it up for a minute, then power down and insert it again it goes through the process of slowly dying... I tried putting the SD card in my computer to format it and this seemed to make it last a little longer before dying

I did not have this problem, but my SL2 was less reliable when I used to leave a microSD card in it.

If you want lots of storage for MP3s, you might be better buying a separate MP3 player. Anyway, the SL2 sucks as an MP3 player as soon as you store many MP3 files on it.

I do record some Sirius shows to MP3s and download them to my SL2, but only a few of them at a time, so I don't need any fancy search and playlist support. Also, it's much much much faster to download MP3s to the SL2's internal memory. SD cards are way too slow in the SL2.

I had to take my microSD card out of my old one as it started having issues. Without the card, the issues disappeared but I am wondering if the eventual demise of the old SL2 was related to the card reader.

With the card out, did the reset and erase or recovery help the problem?

Ahh shoot. I was hoping this was just a problem with mine that could be warrantied

Sucks to hear the SD cards cause so many problems in the SL2... I don't own an mp3 player yet and was hoping this would be my combination of satrad & mp3, but I guess not

The symptoms and issues disappeared once the card was removed. However, if that was a failing piece of hardware, if it failed to the next level it may have taken the whole unit with it card or no card.

Just to be clear, I have never had your issue with my card. I think it is the SL2 weakest feature (nice idea, poorly implemented). I got an MP3 player to cover my MP3 needs.

If you are still under warrentee, I would do the exchange if you can. I did not actually have any problems (other than usability) with my SD card reader until about 18 months after purchase.

hmm... thanks for the tip. I got it for Christmas and I know it was purchased from BestBuy (canada), so I will have to check into the warranty/exchange. Thanks!

On the otherhand my sl2 works half decent other than that, so I don't want to exchange it for one even worse But I've only been using it for 3 days now, so I really don't know...

Best Buy is great if you bought the extended warrentee. Its probably not to late to actually buy the warrentee. If its the first 30 days they are pretty good even without the warrentee.

I got mine at Future Shop (Canada) and they were great with the exchange.

How soon can you usually tell if an SL2 has serious memory issues requiring constant resets? Are there any signs or ways to test it?

Aside from this SD card issue mine has been very good so far and I don't want to risk exchanging it for a bad one with more frequent problems. Especially since just about everyone seems to have more issues when they have an sd card inserted, so I probably won't even bother using it...hmmm.... Do recordings get stored on the SD card too? or is it only for mp3s?
