Default S50 problem...Firmware Updating :(

I'm not sure if anyone still uses an S50, I guess most people have moved on to a Stilletto. I've been using my original S50 (I think I bought it in 2005 or 2006) all this time when most people had to get a new one years ago - so I know I am lucky.

My S50 gets stuck on "Firmware Updating" forever, and then the machine turns itself off. I noticed that others have had this problem, but those posts are years old. Did anyone who had this problem ever get it resolved? What happened?

I was on hold for over an hour last night, and the only thing the Sirius tech could tell me was to take out the battery and put it back in. Now I can only listen to my recorded songs! Can anyone help?

Please. S50 for life. I think there is a fix for this but if there isn't hit up TSS for a replacement because you'll be sad with anything other than S50. The love button just isn't the same with other receivers.

AMFazio- You will probably need to do a 3 finger salute in order to recover your s50.

This will erase every song that is stored on your unit, but at least you will have a functional radio afterwards.

Before you throw it out or use it as a paper weight, try this procedure first. It works like a charm.

If you are completely unsure of how to do this, call TSS Radio at (773)772-4340. They will walk you through the 3 finger salute process to get you going again.

JoeTan- I agree. The s50 is the best portable ever made, for either service. The ability to record without restrictions (except for the 1gb size of the unit) is reason enough to keep one going as long as possible.

I still have 2 of 'em, and I wouldnt even part with my broken one for any amount of money.

hello!
originally from T-Town also! (north end)
aside from my disconnection problems, I've not been able to playback anything recorded for about 5 years now, if i get it connected again, should the 3 finger resolve that issue?

Hey hey! Woodward?

Like BlueNeon said, it sounds like a 3 finger salute is your next step.
Quite honestly, you're pretty lucky to have an S50 that's lasted this long.
After the first year, I had already gone through 2 of them before I had to step up to the 100. When that one croaked, I went for an SL2.

With the Lynx about ready to be released, you might start looking at one of those if you can't get your 50 back up and running.

The radio itself is not too pricy ($300 give or take) but does not include any docks. Also, will work on XM side.

Right on. What year did you graduate?

It looks like the Lynx will be about $250. The docks are separate though.

It sounds like SXM is making some last minute software adjustments to comply with the record industry demands, but this thing looks pretty cool. It should be released soon.
