Question Why do I need a Wifi connection? PLEASE HELP

anyone who knows the answer to this please let me know....I dont want to buy this radio and then its something I didnt expect.

I keep reading about some Wifi connection and the internet and streaming.......Whats this all about? I thought my connecting to the internet through sirius.com was totally diffrent from listenning to music on the stilleto. Please advice if I am wrong on the following.

When I get the Stilleto I am assuming I will walk anywhere and be anywhere and listen to EVERYTHING...that I will get all 198 channels and be able to stop and pause and record........I can lay in bed and listen or i can be at the gym and listen.......

Now if I want to listen to it at home through speakers i need a home kit and if I want to listen to it in my car radio i need the car kit.......

Am I assuming anything incorrectly here?

It is not different from listening on Sirius.com.

You cannot listen to live satellite while you walk everywhere you want to... the satellite must have line of sight to the sky. However, the Internet Radio is designed so that even if the satellite signal is blocked, you can still listen to your favorite SIRIUS channels. The router serves as a repeater.

And, you can still listen via your home speakers via Stiletto standalone, but if you want to listen to the Stiletto, you must have the car kit (or buy a Tunecast and plug it in to the headphone jack)

well, basically here it is. you can be anywhere you have a clear view of the sky and listen to LIVE satellite radio. if you do not have a clear view (aka inside for most of us) then you use the wifi feature of the stiletto. you get the same channels as though you were streaming through your computer from sirius.com so you will not get every channel available, only all the music channels and a select few talk channels that are streamed. you will not be able to record via the wifi connection, but you can record via the LIVE feed.

that make any sense? this is why i never wrote a review, i never make sense

You have the option of using wifi in the home to move about freely and listen to sirius. You have the option to hook it up like other sat radios via a car dock or home dock. You have the option to walk around outside using antenna headphones and listen to Sirius (reception will vary based on geographical location). It was never promised that you will recieve "live" sat while going through a tunnel, or on a train or standing in your basement. That is why there are different modes to this thing.

So then going on a road trip in a car and wanting to use it as a personal unit is out of a question? I have to be outside or near a wifi connection in other words? Being indoors at the office, gym or whatever will get me no signal?

Not unless there is a WiFi connection or the Stiletto can see the sky. (Or the terrestrial repeaters)

Just stick your head out the sunroof and all should be well. LOL! Wear eye protection though.

Akkadian,

You will be able to use the Stiletto in a car as long as you use the car dock. Sirius is great on road trips.
