You need to use YMJ or MSS to do it.

Keep in mind that you will end up with 2 copies of each song on your card: one under the playlist, and one under the album name from which it originates.

I'd suggest YMJ or WMP. You need to create the playlist from within those programs. Then drag and drop the playlist to the microSD card (external memory). This will copy all the files and create the playlist. Doing it this way will not cause you to have 2 copies of the song on your microSD card.

You cannot create playlist on the microSD card with MSS.

Would you be so kind as to give a step-by-step on how to do this. I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks!

The simplest I've found is the following:
  1. Open YMJ and create an empty playlist on the SD card.
  2. Close YMJ.
  3. Open MSS. Magically, the playlist appears on the SD card.
  4. You can now add music to your SD card and drag-and-drop it into the playlist.

This may work, but once you restart your device, those playlist will no longer show up on the SD card, but on the internal memory where the SL2 automatically moves them. They are then no longer accessible.

1. Open YMJ or WMP and create a playlist. Make sure all your files are in the YMJ or WMP library.

2. Simply drag and drop the songs you want from within the program.

3. Now take the playlist that has all your songs in it and drop and drop it to the microSD card. The files will be copied and the playlist created.

To me this is more simple and faster because the MSS is by far the slowest program for copying files.

Either way you go, you will not be able to edit (add/remove songs) once you restart the device, because as I said the SL2 will move the files to the internal memory where they are no longer accessible to do anything but delete them.

Sorry - but when I do this, it still creates an additional copy of the songs in the playlist on the microSD. I've done this before without creating two copies of songs, but can't remember how I did it.

What I have done - and others don't like this process due to speed but I assure you it works - is use Windows Media Player 11. Make sure the MicroSD card is INSTALLED in your SL2 and not in a card reader.

Now, go into Library with WMP 11. Create a New Playlist. Add your tracks to it. No switch to Sync Mode. Pick your SL2 Expansion Card device. Drag the entire Playlist, not the tracks but the list itself. Run the Sync.

Now you will have the playlist name available on your SL2! Guaranteed to work.

Thanks Sirisuperfan. This method certainly creates the playlist for me, but still creates duplicate copies of the songs in the playlist on my expansion card - which I then have to manually delete. The playlist still works, it's just frustrating that it creates duplicate copies of the songs.

In other words, the songs I'm trying to use for a playlist are already on my MicroSD card in the SL2, plus in my Music Library. When I create a playlist using the songs in my Music Library on my PC hard drive (and which already also exist on the MicroSD card), then sync it, I end up with two copies of the playlist songs on the MicroSD card.

Sorry if I'm missing something in your instructions.

Don't copy the songs to microSD card. Only put them in your playlist then drag the playlist to the microSD card. It will not duplicate the songs. My instructions work to a T. I've done it many, many times.

It sounds like you are syncing them and then adding them to a playlist and drop it so it copies them all again.

So, you can't sync the songs and then sync the playlist. You only sync the playlist and it will copy the songs. If you songs are in your sync list remove them. It should only show the playlist.

I appreciate your patience. I'm usually pretty savvy with this stuff, but I still can't get it to work. Here is exactly what I'm doing - please tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

1. Opening Windows Media Player 11
2. At the top left corner of the screen, I click on "Create Playlist" - I do and name it "forum test"
3. I then click on "Library" >> "Songs"
4. I pick two songs from the Library (which are also on my expansion card) and drag them to the "forum test" playlist.
5. I then drag the "forum test" playlist to "Stiletto 2 - Expansion Card"
6. "forum test" then appears in the sync list column on the right side of Media Player. As it adds to the sync list, it shows that my available disk space on my Stiletto 2 - Expansion Card decreases by 4 or 5 MB - the space needed for the two songs in my playlist.
7. Only "forum test" shows up in the sync list. I hit "Start Sync" and it copies the playlist AND an additional copy of the two songs to my expansion card
8. Playlist works great, but I now have two copies of both the songs that were in the playlist.

What am I doing wrong?

Again - thanks for the patience and helping me figure this out.

The songs can't already be on your expansion card, that is why you are getting duplicates. You need to copy the files to the playlist from music directory on your computer or from within the library in WMP11, which should be seeing them from your music directory on your hard drive.

Create the playlist, drop the songs from your Library in WMP11 into the playlist, now sync the playlist and it will copy the files to the expansion card and create the playlist.

What you are doing is you already have the files on your expansion card, then you are creating a playlist and syncing it thereby copying another copy to the expansion card.

No problem on helping you.. sometimes this stuff can be a bit baffling and it only takes one step to screw things up. LOL

Hope this helps!

Thanks. That answers the question for me. I have all my songs already on the expansion card and was trying to create some different playlists from the 2000+ songs I already have. I guess I'll either have to delete them from the expansion card first or delete the duplicates after creating a playlist.

thanks for helping me understand this.
