Exclamation Stiletto 2 - Customized Playlists - FAQ

I had been trying to figure this out for a while and IdRatherBeSkiing helped me find the answer. I figured others may want to know how to make customized playlists for your SL2 using MSS instead of Yahoo.

Here are the steps taken from the MSS Manual:

4.7 - Songs can be added to a playlist as follows:
a.) Click the My PC icon, then drag songs from the “My PC” songs list to any listed playlist.
b.) Click the Stiletto icon and drag songs from the Songs table to a playlist on the Stiletto.
c.) Click either the My PC or the Stiletto icon and drag songs from one playlist to another.

4.8 - Transferring Playlists to your Stiletto
a.) Playlists created and listed in My PC and be easily and quickly copied to your Stiletto. Drag and drop the desired playlist from the Playlist list to the Stiletto icon shown in the source area.
b.) After a playlist has been created and contains songs, you can copy the playlist to your Stiletto by clicking the My PC icon, then dragging the desired playlist icon from the Playlist list to the Stiletto icon.

Note: All of the songs in the playlist are copied along with the playlist title. Playlists can be found on the Stiletto in Library > Playlists

Thanks this is great info.

Too bad it doesn't work for the microSD (external memory). Unfortunately you still must use Yahoo to add Playlist to the microSD Card.

Here is a quick how too.

Open Yahoo Music Jukebox. Import your MP3's or WMA's to the music library. You can also use YMJ to rip your own music, which will rip it and automatically add it to your library. If you have the Yahoo To Go Music Service you can have it download music to your library, which can also be transferred to the SL2's internal or external (microSD card).

Once you have all your music imported;
click on file/create a playlist (you see new playlist appear) now type the name of your playlist
Go to your music library, drag and drop all the songs you wish to add to this playlist
Now take the playlist and drag and drop it to the SL2's external memory (this will load the files and create the playlist)

You can also use this same procedure to create a playlist on the internal memory.

One little side note, after you shut down and restart your SL2. You'll notice the playlist shows up in the list under the internal memory even though you initially dropped it to the external memory. Apparently what Yahoo Music Jukebox does is setup the playlist and tell it where to find the files on the microSD card. Regardless it does work.

By the way there is also a way to reorder your playlist if you decide you want them in a different playing order. (Windows Vista)

Open My Computer (Windows Explorer)
Click on Stiletto2
Click on Internal Memory
Click on Playlist
Double Click on a Playlist.
Now it will open and you can change the order of the list.
When your done close the list.

Now when you open the playlist on the Stiletto it is reordered in the way you have changed it.

I hope these little tidbits help!

By the way I am going to make this a sticky!

I would really like to see the next version of MSS correct this problem. There are a lot of us who still purchase CD's or do not want to download music from for-pay websites and using extra software just to create playlists is pretty unnecessary.

Thanks for the additional information!

I agree with you 100% that the MSS software should support this.

However, I personally don't look at YMJ as extra software that is unecessary. If one does have a huge collection of CD or still buys them the YMJ can be used to rip them and add them to the library, eventually a playlist and onto the device.

My biggest thing is I think the Stiletto needs to allow for the editing of playlist once it is on the device. It should also allow for creating playlist on the fly rather than being forced to use software at all.

Thumbs up Windows Media Player

I also can confirm that I was able to make playlists on my SL2 with Windows Media Player 11 for those of you who don't want to use MSS or YMJ.

My pleasure!

**Windows Media Player 11** How To **

1.) Create a Playlist that you wish to add to your SL2. Add music to it from the Library.
2.) Connect your SL2 to your computer.
3.) Click Sync in Windows Media Player. It will show your Stiletto 2 in the top-right section of the screen. On the left side of the screen is your Playlists, Library, etc.
4.) Drag/drop the Playlist Folder onto your SL2. (section below SL2 icon)
5.) Click Start Sync at the bottom of the section you dragged your Playlist to. Wait for syncing to complete.

When I tried this the first time I had MSS open as well. It did not recognize the new Playlist on the SL2. The radio itself did acknowledge it and it does work. Your best bet is to run it without MSS in the background. I hope this helps!

Note: Media Player offers you the opportunity to change your Stiletto 2 name. I would not recommend doing so because I'm unsure how that would effect updates via MSS.

Will this work with an extended memory card?

Default MicroSD

Yes it does. So there is really no need for the YMJ unless you plan to purchase Loved songs. At least not for me.

Excelllent. As soon as my backordered 8Gb card comes (they now say 10 days from last Thursday), I will try it out. Sometimes it does not pay to live in Canada.

It is great that the WMP will create playlist on both the internal and external card. I will have to try it.

This is especially good news for folks that have had problems with YMJ and/or just don't want to install YMJ.

Lightbulb Windows Media Player 11 - MicroSD Cards

FYI: You can make customized Playlists for your MicroSD cards with Windows Media Player 11. Let's say you have several Playlists and there are duplicate tracks in them, Media Player will detect those and prevent duplicate copies saving you storage space.

So if you took tracks out of your regular PlayList and added them to your Favorite Playlist for example, it would not allow duplicate copies. This si great for folks who make multiple Playlists and do not want to take the time to edit out duplicate tracks. The works is done for you!

Well my expereince with WMP 11 was not good. It totally wiped out all my previosly YJM created playlist. The only way you can make playlist with YMJ or WMP is to create them and then copy the files. So this meant for me wiping my card and starting all over. I have still not done this because I've been busy and I am still pissed about the poor music file management.

So just a warning if you've created playlist from YMJ for whatever reason Microshafts WMP 11 seems to think they aren't suppose to be there and removes them. Also in lookin on the device is appears that WMP puts the playlist in the wrong folder.
