Exclamation Installer guy says "FCC denies merger"?

I was just at a local custom Strereo place in my area looking at some options for a car and one of the install guys told me the FCC just denied the XM/SIRIUS merger and they got a memo about it this past weekend. Anybody hear anything about this? I'm thinking he got his speaker wires crossed and confused or something.

I thought maybe he was confused with last week's announcement & I told him the DOJ approved it last week. He seemed to be well aware of that decision, but was telling me that now the FCC has shot it down & deemed it a monopoly. When I got home, I looked on the internet for some info about anything related to this and really couldn't find any articles or writes ups about it. I would think an announcement like that would be fairly relative news in the entertainment industry at least. I know it won't set the world on fire or anything, but you would think there would be some headlines stating the fact if it happened.

My gut tells me he read some information wrong or upside down and it hasn't been decided either way by the FCC yet. I am an avid listener of SIRIUS and have been playing close attention to this topic so I would of probably seen something about it. I just hope it wasn't a psychic prediction by him (LOL!!!)

The stereo salesperson would have info not privy to Orbitcast, anybody else here or anyone at XMFAN. I would find the odds of such extremely unlikely.

Stereo salesmen are notoreously mis-informed about satellite radio in general. This one is no different.

SIRI stock has fallen in last few days, perhaps the insiders know something we don't yet.

It probably has fallen because of profit taking after the DOJ announcement.

Say no more. Why would you even entertain the notion that one of the "install guys" at your local stereo store had knowledge, secret or otherwise, about anything?

Actually, a couple of trading firms have recently downgraded Sirius stock, so it will flounder until the FCC decision is released.

Trading was light today. If a negative FCC decision was made, I'm sure we would have seen heavy short trading... There are multi billion dollar stock trading firms that pay people to watch businesses full time.. These firms usually get this info first... Like membag says. I can't see a local stereo shop scooping the news ahead of the major Wall Street brokerages

"The merger's been denied! Get this memo out to all the stereo shops so they'll be ready for the official announcement next week..."

Sounds a lot like this email warning I got for a virus. It's a really bad one, Mcafee and Norton are gearing up for it CNN is reporting on it and Snopes says it is real too.

When's the last time CNN and your coworker's mom's email chat group spread a warning faster than a virus spread itself?

I can't count how many times I've been in CC or Best Buy and heard sales people make retarded statements about satellite. But, for $7/hour, can't expect much more.

That's great news.

Can you ask him who is going to win the Kentucky Derby this year? I really need to make some money and this guy clearly has information on the future that no one else has.

Get the winner and I'll go bet the house! Go $5.25/hour installer-man!

Believing what a stereo shop or stereo shop installer says is equivalent to letting a 4 year old tell you what stocks to buy. These guys like to think they know something because "this is what they do all day." I would never let a stereo shop installer get near my car because I've seen the kind of work that most of them do. There are good installers but they usually don't last long because they find more challenging work. I know of at least one that is outstanding but he mostly installs alarms and doesn't want to be bothered with the simple stuff.

The Installer Guy title makes me think of this guy, for some reason.

"Don't worry about the merger, Steven, when I get this baby installed you'll get Sirius AND XM on one unit for free..."

A team ranking of 15? That's pretty weak...

LOL....that about sounds like the young sales rep at a store I'll not mention who tried selling me a Sirius radio last year. I told him I already had XM, but would like to get Sirius for the NASCAR channel. He asked me why I had XM, I told him mostly for MLB. He said he had good news that the 2 companies were merging, and I'd no longer need my XM radio. I told him I knew that. He went on to tell me that if I bought a Sirius radio and when the merger got regulatory approval, the next day I'd have MLB on my Sirius radio...guaranteed.

I asked him what if the merger gets shot down, or MLB isn't on my Sirius the next day after approval, what would he guarantee me. He said he'd give me my money back that I spent on the radio, let me keep the radio, pay for my subscription fees I had incurred to that point, and also pay my subscription fees for a year after. I was starting to smell BS by this point. But to convince myself, I asked him what to do if I have to go after my guarantee if should come to that. Bring it back to the store? Contact Sirius? Nope. He said because I was considered a valued-customer, he'd give me his home phone number, and I'd be able to deal directly with him. Otherwise, he said, I'd have to deal with a lot of red-tape and paperwork, and may not get some of my refund deducted. But by dealing with him personally, he'd be able to see to it that I got all the guarantees coming to me. And that I was one of a few that would get that. LOL.

That's when I had to tell him what I knew and basically called BS on what he was telling me, without actually coming out and saying that. LOL Suffice to say, I didn't buy a radio from the person or that particular place of business. Also, suffice to say, I've since stopped at this place of business numerous times and the young sales representative no longer works there. LOL
