I agree that people are hypocrites about this, but excusing him from cheating is worse.

Baseball proper can not put * next to player or remove awards or records. The court of public opinion can do that though, and we will. Bonds has the official record but we all know it's bullshit.

It just wouldn't be possible because its more then individual records. Do you then take away all team achievements ?

Just way too big of a kettle of fish to fry, but they should all be outed and we the public should consider them all cheats.

I am not, nor will I ever excuse Bonds for cheating. I've only ever called out people for being hypocrites for bagging on him excessively. I will say that because soooo many other players have cheated, you can't just hold Bonds accountable for EVERYONE'S sins. Let's be perfectly frank about this point...he is the only one taking any heat for this. The irony being that only the court of public opinion has found him guilty. He's admitted to have unknowingly taken the "cream and the clear" because he was told it "flaxseed oil". Believe him or not, that's the only real blemish that is actually traceable to court records "at the moment".

I just laugh my ass off at the hypocrisy. All of the lemmings that were calling him to task as he was approaching the record are not at all bothered by the recent findings of World Series MVP Troy Glauss or the summer comeback player Rick Ankiel...where's the outrage? Huh St. Louis fans? Where are those signs now? It's ok for Ankiel, I guess. Fucking hypocrites. I was calling out all those fans and I was throwing out these type of scenarios throughout this season, and look what's happened....just unbelievable.

The Glaus and Ankiel story just broke a few days ago, the Bonds shit has been going on for years. Yes they are cheaters just like Bonds. It takes time for the stories to make the rounds. With the NFL just starting, these two stories will be put on the back burner, the NFL is way more of a story and Ankiel and Glaus are not on the same level of fame as Bonds.

I wouldn't call it people being hypocrites, I would say it's people being less informed.

Bonds isn't the only guy taking the heat like you claim, he's just a bigger story. What's a bigger story, Lohan getting all fucked and doing dumb stuff or some d list actor doing the same. It's all about the level of fame you have and what the media wants to run with.

In time, people will forget about Ankiel and Glaus but they will still remember Bonds. Who's going to stand out more, two guys with a combined 29 hr this year or a guy who broke the all time homerun record? Of course it's Bonds. It's not hypocaracy, it's who's a bigger catch.

Hmmmm....well, it is true that it just broke, but the reports that I've seen on the television already have the newscasters/sportscasters apologizing ahead of the story for Ankiel. They say things like, "Keep in mind, the HGH was prescribed by a Doctor". Why do I have to keep that thought in mind? Does that mean if Bonds or McGwire or Sosa or Palmeiro(I could go on) got their steroids from a Doctor that it would be all right? If the angle is that Ankiel isn't as big as Bonds, then the story isn't about how steroids is ruining the integrity of the game, it's about ratings for tv shows and newspaper and magazine sales. The media is giving Ankiel a pass. Do you think for a nano second that if a story came out where a Doctor gave Bonds a year's worth of HGH that anyone, yourself included, would say...."hey, now wait a second, before you rush to judgement, keep in mind that a Doctor was giving it to him to help him heal from surgery...just keep that in mind". GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!

I've said dozens of times that Bonds is the poster boy for the steroids scandal and will more than likely be the one person remembered once it has come to pass. But that's because he is the one person that the media is fixated on. I'm saying that there are many, many others involved. And if you or anyone from any other baseball city starts breaking balls against Bonds while talking about integrity and records that mean something, you're being hypocritical. Steroids or HGH are everywhere and in every sport.

I love the fact that the good people of St.Louis(always regarded as the class of baseball fans)were really no different when it came to the lambasting of Bonds, yet they were the ones who were making plans for the McGwire statue and now they have what WAS THE BEST STORY IN BASEBALL THIS YEAR of Rick Ankiel coming back like Babe Ruth incarnate only to have it be just another pin prick in the ass of the fans. Will the good people of St. Louis finally come to realize that steroids are part of the game and that Bud Selig and the players union and the players really want these drugs because they're good for the game? I say they will. As long as they're not held to the fire and as long as someone who's likable can come along and start breaking records, they'll gladly play along....and that's why I call everyone a hypocrite...because they've proven to me that they are.

If Barry Bonds wasn't a total jerkoff, he'd be getting far less heat. Sosa got busted with a corked bat, McGwire all but admitted he used steroids, Palmero tested positive, Ankiel is linked to HGH... and nobody really cares because they're all pretty nice guys. Bonds is an asshole so of course he's going to be treated differently. If Sheffield were to test positive, he'd get slammed in the media as well because he's also a jerk.

That's right. But really, the people that Barry is the biggest jerk towards is the sports media. His time with the fans is slight at best, he's learned to not be on the field until necessary. He's treated the media like shit from day one and that's a large reason as to why. The media could be going after dozens of guys that have actually failed drug tests, but Bonds is the story, so Bonds is the guy to hate.

I ain't calling out Barry for being a cheater. He is what he is and he'll have to live with that. My problem is with the hypocrites, they know who they are. When Barry was breaking Aaron's record they all came out with their flamethrowers. But now, as each team falls one by one from the steroid scandal, they're all very, very quiet. This domino will fall in succession, one falling onto the next until every team is tainted and no city is safe from the fan in the stands with the asterisk sign.

They're hypocrites...that's all.

But here is the thing Packie , you are a Giants fan, and whether intentional or not, it comes off as you defending Bonds and saying that he should be treated better. As others have said with his terrible persona and reputation as being a jerk to his teammates, and the fact that he is the poster boy of the Steroid era, he will never ever be given any slack, and who cares if its fair or not. He brought it all on himself and deserves whatever bitter pill he has to swallow. I have no empathy for him, call me a hypocrite if you like, but he spent his whole career with a "who cares about the fans" attitude so he is getting it back. Who cares about Barry Bonds. He's just a cheat.

Well, you're right about one thing; I am a Giants fan. However, I can't emphasize this enough: I DON'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT BARRY BONDS.

I know he's a jerk to the sports media and he's lukewarm at best towards the fans. I have never ever cared about him as a person, other than I find his baseball story to be interesting. That's it. He was a great player, the best I have ever seen(I did see Mays play, but I was too young to really have seen him play), but when it's all said and done, my Giants still have no ring to show for the city they play for right now. That is all that I have ever truly cared about. San Francisco is about to embark upon half a century without a championship...dire, dire stuff.

I'm not carrying a torch for Bonds. My thing is wielding the spotlight on others, the fans from other cities who are hypocrites for beating him up while all around them are players from their own team that are on the juice.

If people want to hate him for being a jerk, I have NO PROBLEM with them. But...TO BE FAIR...all I'm saying is, Bonds faced pitchers, he played against other teams that were taking the juice. The pitcher(Clay Hensley) Barry hit his 755th home run was a pitcher that failed a steroid drug test. That same San Diego pitcher watched his own fans boo Bonds interminably during that series and that game. They called Bonds a cheater and that his 20 years of accomplishments were shit, yet this pitcher knew in his own heart that he himself had decided to cheat by using steroids. Did the fans know? Probably not. They certainly cheered for him when he got Bonds out.

I said it at the time and I'll continue to say it by using this thread as showcase to highlight the hypocrisy as and when I see it. Fans act as if he's the only guy to use it. I'm calling out the reactionary knuckleheads and internet profiteers.

I'm not fighting Barry's fight, I'm showcasing other people's hypocrisy and I don't care how it makes me look.

It will be interesting to watch the fans of his next team. I want to see if they'll still boo his ass once he hits 25 plus home runs as a DH.

Barry will get his commupence in time. Just like another Bay Area asshole, Rick Barry. Maybe there's something about the Barry name?
