Default Casey Kasem on Big 80s

I wonder now with the merger, if Casey Kasem countdown will be part of the Big 80s. Although from what I understand the Big 80's will become 80s on 8 after this Wednesday.

Thoughts??

Not sure about the Big 80's, but Totally 70's has retired the Satellite Survey and will be playing the Casey Kasem countdowns starting next weekend.

Hope so, I'll miss the 70s Satellite Survey and I always listen to the Nina Blackwood countdown, but Casey Kasem inspired me to want to get into radio, which I did briefly before I realized I didn't have the kind of talent to make money at it. It's going to be a treat to hear the countdowns again like the XM listeners have for awhile.

If I had to bet, I'd think both services will begin using the MTV VJs beginning soon.

Yes as I heard on the 80's on 8 the other day all the MTV VJ's will be on the 80's on 8 and yes Casey Kasem will be on sirius. I always enjoyed Nina Blackwoods countdown show, but if I had to chose one or the other I would take AT40 any day over Nina's countdown show.

Yes we have always enjoyed Nina Blackwoods show but Casey is the classic and sure cant beat him. Glad to see him on the Big 80's or is it now 80's on 8. At least the Sirius' 80's format stays the same.

I have XM and Sirius and my problem with the Casey Kasem show they have been playing have been inconsistant. They don't get every year and every countdown like the Satellite Survey and The Big 80's countdown. Paticularly Dave Hoefell's show where he hit all ten years in the 70's in ten weeks 4 times a year, no fail. On XM, they sometimes play too much of some years and ignore other years. Everyone loves to hear Casey just to hear him, but if your a chart buff this is just one more reason why this merge sucks.

You know something you are right about how they skip around the years on AT40 I think it has to do with how the show is distributed. Here on KJR 95.7 FM they air the 70's edition of AT40 every sunday and almost always 3 out 4 weeks of the month they tend to focus a lot on the later 70's from 1976 on. So really I think XM has to air what they got and are allowed to air.

The Wikipedia AT40 page is very detailed and may provide some explanation on the above issues of what contdowns are heard:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Top_40

For example, the show started in July, 1970, so during the first half of the year anyway, no countdowns exist for that year. Due to limited distribution they may not have been able to come up with the source records for a lot of the early shows.

It hadn't occurred to me that these shows were distributed on vinyl. By the time I was in radio running board for the country countdown show, they were all on CD. The shows we'll hear on Sirius have been remastered from the vinyl.

Casey's AT40 show from 11/14/1981 is on right now, Sirius 8. I assume it started at 12:30pm, not sure if this will be the regular time slot.

Oh man, that is sweet! And I missed it too. I used to listen to Casey religiously back in the early 80's. I probably heard that original broadcast too! Dammit! I wish that I would have known he was on!

EDIT: They're doing a rebroadcast of it! Sweet!!!

Personally,

Sirius should retain the original 80's channel the way it was.

Blackwoods countdown has always been interesting as she brought interesting insight from todays perspective.

Listening to old radio shows just is boring.
