Rodney Lee Conover definitely leaned to the right side of the political spectrum. Jay Thomas as we all know, leaned heavily to the left. However, neither of them were zealots for either the far left or the far right. They had a great balance which is why I think the show appealed to a wide array of listeners (including me). In this day and age where even the major news outlets are either far left (CNN, New York Times) or far right (Fox News, any a.m. talk show) it was very refreshing listing to Jay, Rodney, and the listeners discuss all thing political and non-political.
Jay & Rodney, when together, possessed a rare talent which was the ability to discuss political issues from both the left and the right and yet somehow not turn-off either side of the listening population. Now that Rodney has left, the show has rapidly morphed into a mini-Air America. Jay leans left and that’s okay, he was usually offset and held in check by Rodney. Now with Shuli and Adrianne Frost, the show is now unlistenable. Jay has begun to sink to their far left leaning, elitist, close minded, view that is typical of the “I live in New York, don’t own a TV, read Kafka, surf the wireless at Starbucks” set. I think the truck drivers, who are a large contingent of TJTS, and many, many, many others will flee in droves.
I can only guess that being Jay’s sidekick does not pay very well. What other explanation can there be for Jay to be considering two individuals such as Suhli and Adrianne Frost that are so obviously devoid of talent and bring absolutely zero to the show. Lacking talent is one thing, but these two also manage to be very unlikable human beings as well. Quite a double whammy. Why can’t Jay Thomas see this? Who knows, perhaps he can, but Sirius won’t shell out the necessary bucks to hire real talent.
