Default Poole's Postulates

Id like to respond to the first postulate from Wednesday. The question is, "Is the yellow line rule more trouble than its worth"

My answer to that is an absolute YES! The problem I have with it is this. It gives Nascar way too much input into the decision of the race. Its gives Nascar the ability to affect the outcome of not only the finish for the race win, but it gives them the ability to affect the outcome of each drivers race. I think a lot of backlash from fans against Nascar in general, myself included, is that as a sanctioning body, they get way too involved in the races. You hear more about the decisions from Nascar than you do about the actual racing. Isnt the saying go, the best offical is the invisible offical? The kind you dont see or hear about.

I fear Nascar instituted this policy, not for saftey, but as a gimmick for these races to "spice them up" I say that because in the last 21 years ive been watching this, I can tell you of 1 time, going below the yellow line has caused an accident, the 1999 Diehard 500 where Mike Skinner blocked Tony Stewart to the grass. (In fact thats famous for Larry Mac fans as the day Larry had to leave the track early because he cussed out Skinner so bad on the radio Skinner was coming for him after the race.) I can tell you multiple times where the yellow line rule has caused an accident or caused controversey where Nascar directly influenced the finish of the race based on their judgement.

My point is, there is no documented evidence to indicate Nascar made this rule based on saftey. There is plenty of evidence to indicate this rule has caused more harm than good. Its like the lucky dog, just another gimmick that hideen under the shroud of "saftey"

i think and lord knows if i am wrong i will get someone on here that will correct me i am sure of that. I think that one reason NASCAR did the yellow line is for those drivers who go low and transition from the banking to the flatter part of the track from doing so. I guess i recall them saying it upsets the car to much and potentially could cause an accident. Well ladies and gentleman of the NASCAR world, I see no difference in the accidents 10 years ago at the two yellow line tracks then i do today. So it has done nothing for that. You can not give a driver who is going 190+ an imaginary line to stay above. It seems to me that there is more of an issue in the turns then on the straightaways. If you want to keep this from happening, and staying loyal to all the fans who want a great race with a great finish, lets put walls on the inside with softwalls on top of the them for the turns only. Other tracks have inside walls, or even like martinsville did, they used curbing. again, you can not have an imaginary line that can be a 50/50 to decide an outcome of the race. Just another one of NASCAR incredible foul ups to cause controversy.

It is pretty obvious to me that the yellow line rule needs to stay. If for no other reason than we don’t need to find out if it is really working. Because if it is and we take it away it could kill someone. Rules are put in place for many reasons and just because a few people don’t like what happens when they are enforced doesn’t mean we should change them. The fact that there have been no major accidents for passing below the yellow line tells me the rule is working.

Read my previous post, youll find your wrong. The yellow line rule has caused more acicdents and more controversey than there ever was before the yellow line rule was in place.

I think the rule should be "If its paved, you can pass." It will self police itself I bet.

The point is missed. Along with being a gimmick and a thorn in everyones side, the yellow line rule has caused these races to be more dangerous than if we didnt have it.
