I tried to listen, but this excercise just confirmed that Rap is hard for me to get into. I don't mind all Rap, but some of it is hard to take, and it is sometimes offensive to me to listen to. So I have no real opinion on the channel since I just couldn't get into the music enough to give it a valid review. Maybe someone else can step up and review itl

I tried to listen as well. I couldn't get into the channel. For me, it was too difficult to get past the lyrics and into the music. I might have given the channel about 30 minutes before giving up. I am sure that some find this music more appealing that me. Chime in if you do or even if you tired to do this weeks Walk the Dog.

I couldn't get into this channel either. Hip-hop isn't my favorite type of music, but I really gave it a try. I listened to it all morning this morning before it got to be repetitive. I also don't understand why they play edited versions of some songs. I think all the songs should be unedited. Play the songs the way they were meant to be heard. DJs would also add some personality to the channel. They do have good imaging. I will be curious to hear Eminem's channel when it comes on. That should be interesting. As for this channel, it's ok, but not a preset on my radio. My score:
5/10 Dogbones.

Where is RedLeaf? Maybe we can get a favorable report about Street Beat before too long.

haha, I've been lurking about, just reading some of the feedback.

My original post was going to be "yeah I know, who's the jerk that recommended this channel?"

Here's my take on it.
I'm 21 years old and a junior in college. Throughout high school I absolutely despised rap and everything it stood for. The fact that people sang about shooting cops and smoking weed made me sick. When I went to college, my roomate told me he'd change my opinion on rap music, and needless to say, he did.

This is where I'm coming from when it comes to this type of music...
Ignore the lyrics. It's pretty much as simple as that. Forget about the message the rappers are trying to send, and concentrate on the rhyming and the beat. If you do that, it makes it a lot more enjoyable. I like rap based on the fact that there are a lot of different types of instruments that you wouldn't normally hear in other types of music.
I don't take the music seriously, therefore I'm not offended.
Two years ago, if anybody told me that I'd have a rap channel as one of my presets on my radio, I'd tell them they were crazy.
Maybe I'm the crazy one!

Since nobody seems interested in engaging on a conversation about this, I'll give you my viewpoint of Streat Beat specifically.

I only listen to Sirius in my car, and usually it's about for 20 minutes a day total. The number of repeats on this station is absolutely astounding. You can literally hear the same song at least 5 times a day.

However, it's one of the only channels that plays rap that I've actually heard of, along with Hot Jamz (channel 50).

One more thing I don't like about this channel is they have a promo that says something like "And now an old school jam'.... And while you're expecting something like RunDMC or something from the 90's, you hear an Eminem song that was new in 2001. It's pretty ridiculous.

If this station put more tracks into their current playlist and didn't just play the same ones over and over again, it would be a very decent station.
Any other thoughts?

Yes, you can. Some songs are literally played 5-7 times a day. Most of thepopular songs are on a 3-4 hour rotation.

I've been thinking the same thing though not along the RUN DMC line (i'm much younger) but songs that get airtime on Backspin would be a perfect old school jam not a hit from '01 . Hell, Faction plays "You Can Hate Me Now" by Nas featuring Puffy. That would be a old school jam or '90's bounce back imho.....

I agree with you. I've really cut back on my listening of this channel because like Hot Jamz, I'm pretty sure I've heard every song in the rotation even though, they are missing tons of hits from the 90's and 2000, 2001 and 2002. Its all about the hits...
