Ok I recorded and scanned through about 20 hours of boom box this weekend. I must say it is probably the best programmed out of the dance channels. The music itself is not really my cup of tea but I like the channel for what it is. There were hardly any repeats in those 20 hours. So what didn't I like?
1) They seem very dependant on particular artists, you hear Chemical Brothers, Fat Boy Slim, Prodigy, Freestylers, DJ Icey all over the place. I'm sure there are many other artists that would fit into the format.
2) The Hip Hop. Ok I still can't figure what consitutes a hip hop song to get played on Boom Box. I mean isn't nearly all hip hop break beat? What the hell is break beat by the way? Here is some of the hip hop I've heard on Boom box
Rhymefest feat Kayne West - Brand New
Ok I love this song and I'm glad I found it, but why did I find it on Boombox?
Naughty By Nature - O.P.P. ????
Say what???
Lords of the Underground -
Can't remember which song, I used to love them in college (that was 10 years ago), you lost me there why is it on boombox?
Jurrasic 5
Ok cool I found a place where they play non mainstream hip hop, so why is it on boombox again.
I guess I get a little confused with the imaging from the Sirius webpage is this a hip hop station or a dance station?
"Old school, nu-skool, drum 'n' bass, hip hop and mash-ups. The home of the breaks!"
It sounds like a dance station with random hip hop thrown in for fun. I guess I don't see why we should have hip hop on the electronic/dance stations. They have no place for house music right now but they can put hip hop onto some of our bandwidth. The beat would be the logical choice for house since most of the mainstream dance hits are house.
Anyway I'm off topic, overall I like boombox and definitely wish they would program the Beat and Area 33 with the same kind of playlist depth and non repeats.
