Default Sirius CHILL

Hi folks...

Anyone here listening (or attempting to listen) to Sirius Chill? I got my tuner just after xmas this year and was really looking forward to having something like this that I could listen to anywhere. Yeah I'm a big SomaFM fan...I realize Chill isn't SomaFM but man...it's letting me down hugely.

Chill repeats way too much...but this seems to be a common problem across all of Sirius lately. But it's the playlist that drives me bonkers...what's with all the annoying covers?? I mean I just heard a terrible cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (with the usual breathy, sensual-sounding female vocalist). And then there's that horrid cover of Dylan's "Just Like a Woman," or that annoying-as-hell "Yoav" cover of "Where is my mind" by the Pixies. Or worst and wall-punchingly-annoying of all, that damned Yael Naim cover of Britney Freaking Spears' "Toxic." This is "Chill?" It raises my blood pressure every time. I'm surely not paying a monthly fee to hear a terrible and completely un-necessary cover of a crappy Britney Spears song. Covering a pop tune with a "breathy" female vocalist all slowed down and acoustic is NOT chill for god's sake!!

Where's all the Ninja Tune artists on Chill? I've never heard them play DJ Food or the Herbaliser, or the Irresistable Force (and yes, I've called and requested it, e-mailed and begged for it). I'm not sure there is anyone home at all at Chill.

So my question...with the merger looking more likely and the a-la-carte system being proposed, can anyone comment on what XM's Chill station is like in comparison?

(I mean I KNOW it's not going to be SomaFM but good grief...these people have no idea what good ambient downtempo electronica is supposed to be like...Toxic...sheesh.)

Dual Sub here

XM Chill doesn't include the accoustic rock stuff that is out of place on Sirius Chill. I suppose it depends on what kind of music you are expecting on a "Chill" station. XM has this other really good station called "Audio Visions" which I think is much better for just "chilling and relaxing". It's more of a cosmic/new-age "no beats" kind of station that i enjoy more.

Maybe it's just me but I still find the music on both Sirius Chill and XM Chill too "active" to really relax to. I prefer a more spacious/cosmic/expansionist/non-vocal music for that.

XM's chill channel is fantastic. It blows Sirius Chill away.

Try an XM free trial online and check it out, it's amazing.

Thanks for the responses...yeah I had a quick look over at XM and already their Chill station is far closer to what I'm hoping for (and no lame covers of Britney Spears "Toxic"). Guess I'll just be patient and wait for the a-la-carte thing to appear since we'll all be one "family" if it all goes through.

I hear you on the zero-beat thing. I've been listening to Spa-73 on Sirius more than Chill these days. It would be nice if they had a channel like SomaFM's "Drone Zone" or even the Sleepbot Environmental Broadcast (www.sleepbot.com).

I listen to Chill on Sirius at night to goto sleep. I'm not a huge buff in ambient/chill type music, so it doesn't bother me. It is good enough for me, and if I don't want something like that, i use Spa73 to goto sleep also.

Recently Ive been listening to more Sirius Chill usually when Im doing some work on my pc or just doing chores around the house and haven't heard many if any 'acoustic rock' songs (which is a good thing!). Does anyone agree?

I actually kind if like it. I never really listened to it, but I heard it playing for ambient music at a Pad Thai restaurant and really liked it. Certainly not driving music, and definitely not as good as Groove Salad.

I like Chill. I'm no aficionado in this type of music department so I'm not qualified to tell you what artists they AREN'T playing but I like Chill. Not really my #1 choice for driving but great for hanging out.

Oh and GREAT music to put on in the bedroom. Banging to Sirius Chill is fun, chicks love it.

Just want to note that this past Saturday morning before I got up I turned on Sirius Chill and was blown away by all the good songs on there. I only heard 1 kind of acoustic rock song which was "Sweet Jane" from Natural Born Killers soundtrack that was after 6 Electronic Chill tracks and it was followed by another batch of good Electronic Chill. They have seriously improved this channel.
