Default DJs Arrive in Outlaw Country

Although I don't see any mention of this on the Sirius Web site, at least two DJs arrived in Outlaw Country yesterday.
During my morning drive I heard Jeremy Tepper doing the 6AM-12noon shift in Outlaw Country, a return to his old shift at The Border. (Since he is still in Folktown from Noon until 6PM, I'd guess he's voice tracking all or part of one or both shows.)
When I took my lunch break---and while driving home---I heard a woman who goes by the name of "Miss Jolene."
I didn't listen during any other time periods, so I don't know if they're the only two so far.

Well, that's some good news to me. Maybe, just maybe, this will start a transition back to the Border!

I'm glad Jeremy Tepper is back on stream 36...he does good work. Haven't heard Miss Jolene yet. I hope they bring back George Simpson, too!

I heard "Miss Jolene" on my commute this afternoon. Can't say I was a big fan of what I heard, but I also only heard her a couple of times in my half hour drive. And ANY jockeys are infinitely preferable to the movie clips and the canned voice someone else called "The Countrified Voice of God." I second the motion to bring back George Simpson -- it's been too long since I heard him talking about Burma Shave...

The music itself didn't seem any different -- the same Outlaw Country mix of the good (Billy Joe Shaver, Lucinda Williams, Junior Brown), the bad (Moby Grape, too much old rockabilly), and the stuff that belongs on Roadhouse (Willie Nelson, Hank Jr. to a lesser degree). Although a very strong positive today was the first time I'd ever heard Tift Merritt on this stream -- long overdue. Maybe it's a sign that at least this stream will no longer be run on the seeming horrific autopilot it's been on for months now.

C'mon Sirius, end the charade, give us Alt-Country fans what we all want, and give us the old Border again. You've given us some jockeys back, now please do the rest!

I also keep hoping that Outlaw Country will get more like The Border, (After all, you'd think Outlaw Country was just over the border from the rest of the country channels/streams. Even Jeremy Tepper made some comment like, "We're here just over the border in Outlaw Country.") but then I hear Moby Grape or something else that, for me, doesn't fit any country format and I click on another country channel for a while.

When it comes to how long we went without DJs on/in Outlaw Country, 20/20 hindsight tells me that I shouldn't have been so surprised. Back when NYC actually had an FM country music station, that station also went without DJs for its first month or so. In fact, they even ran without commercials at first, which seems strange for broadcast radio.

Where did they find this Jolene? Rolling drunks for quarters at the port authority? Just shoot me now. Her inane mumbling adds insult to injury to this personal record collection masquerading as a radio format.

Has anyone else noticed that the jockeys (including the inane Jolene) seem to have been an experiment that got canned after a week or two?

I find this interesting, and possibly even a hopeful sign. Hopeful in that if Sirius did something to this stream like throw on jockeys briefly, then do away with them, it seems to indicate that maybe somebody at Sirius is waking up and realizing that something needs to be done here. If management was satisfied with the Outlaw Country format, I doubt they'd be making haphazard changes and then retracting them.

My hope is that they tinker more with this, end maybe even (gasp) just do what we've been asking for for months and give us the Border again.

Well, the Sirius Web site still lists two DJs...and I do know that Jeremy Tepper, going under his nickname of the Rig Rocker (so that we don't realize he's the same guy who's on Folktown for six hours after his six-hour shift on Outlaw Country?), is still there. In fact, he's hosting an in-studio visit with John Carter Cash at 10 AM EST tomorrow morning (9/17/04). As for the other DJ listed on the Web page---Nature Boy---I don't know who he is or when he's on the channel.

Thanks for the info. Out here on the west coast I don't wake up early enough to ever hear Jeremy Tepper. But regardless, this is an awfully thin crew of DJ's. I wonder what the deal is.
