Farewell SBS - My Resignation

As you have seen other Moderators leave this forum, I will follow for much the same reasons as they did. It is really a shame with so much that you as members and we as moderators have all invested in this place, that it does come down to this. The forum is slow and needs attention, and the owner has apparently abandoned this place. So we are really left with no choice. The SBS members are the very best, and have made this a fun place to be for the last several years of it's existence. I know I haven't been as active on the forum in the last year as I used to be, but that is for two reasons, the forum is slow which I have low tolerance for, and I frankly have been quite busy with life's challenges. I have found a second wind at digatal radio central.

Even though this is a sad day, I am happy to say that many of the friends I have made here, are now at digital radio central. I hope many of you will not just fade away, as this forum has, but join the rest of us over at the new forum. The forum is fast, and has the same lively spirit you have experienced here over the years. We would love to see you around over there. It's time for a new start, all are welcome.

Farewell SBS, it's been good while it lasted. I will never forget this place.

Well, when you have an owner (RyanM) who completely abandons his own site, and there is no ability for anyone to fix the loading time issues or other problems SBS has...not to mention even making changes to the site, to add new features, or to maintain and update everything which needs attention, what are your options?

1) Do you let the site die a slow and painful death and watch the community disappear?

or

2) Do you recreate the magic with a new site with dedicated owners, proper backing and support to avoid this from occuring again, and a renewed focus on the community including many of the people who made it so special.

Most everybody, from TulaneJeff (the founder of SIRIUS Backstage), to the Admins and Moderators, to the regular members, and even us "old-timers" have found their way over to DigitalRadioCentral.com, and publicly support the new community.

It's also primed for discussion of all Digital Radio technologies, while maintaining a focus on the POST-MERGER satellite radio universe.

Because it's hard to do when the owner doesn't respond to anything to people who are indeed trying to help.

Everyone seemed to just up and leave. What if RyanM comes back? Where does this leave the SBS community? Do the old mods come back? Is there now competing forums between SBS and DRC?

I don't like DRC because it's NOT Sirius specific. I liked being part of a unique community here and will maintain my status as an active member. So what if the page loads slowly? I like reading stuff that's uniquely Sirius and will endor the long ass page loads (

It just seems like there could have been a better "migration" to DRC and maybe a little more fight (time?) given to keep SBS alive and well.

The ownership expires in 2010 anyway. Maybe someone can buy it then and fix it.

Sorry to those that are disappointed with what is happening here as I can relate. None of us want this to happen. But if there is still some life here and you enjoy the site, then by all means stay here. DRC does have some sirius specific forums, and there is plenty of the SBS spirit going on over there. Take a look and make a decision. I hope that Ryan will come back and give this place the attention that it needs for the sake of those that appriciate this forum and want to stay here.

I liked it to. And this site is still here (for now). I come here once a week or so now instead of daily. It used to take me 1 hour do do what it should take 5 minutes to do. I suspect one day you will come here and find the home page to be "404: Page not found". Until then, this site is still here (unmoderated). Although as I understand it new membership is turned off so you won't have to worry about spammers.

Also, its hard to fight for a place when one of the people you are fighting is the owner of the site.

That should be all for me over here. I too have registered at the "other site". I'm sure I will see many of you over there. Too bad because this site was enjoyable when it worked.

While I appreciate the fact that you want to stay, feel free. The point is a forum is only as good as the members it attracts. With this site so slow with only a handful of members posting, it just does not work when tasked with more than a few. Those dedicated to SBS worked to try to fix it, but could not but still wanted to move on.

There is a place for you at the DRC. We welcome you over..

Actually I check in maybe once a week to see the five new posts. BTW, I don't hate the site. I invested almost 3,000 post here and made a lot of friends. SBS was a very valuable resource. I hate the fact that RyanM bailed on it without informing anyone. That's his choice but I think it was a spineless act. At the very least he owed it to his mods to inform them of the future [or lack of] for SBS.

RyanM's not coming back and this site will die a slow death. You can see it already. It's a ghost town.

Maybe the DRC people could aquire the address www.siriusbackstage.com in 2010 and direct it over to DRC.

I've had a great time here for years as a lot of others have, but for me the good times have come to an end. A huge THANKS goes out to all the great members/mods I've met here and will continue to communicate with. I'll say goodbye and bow out as well and I'll see some of you at the DRC.
