Default At Home Keeps "Aquiring Signal" Is it Defective?

Just got my first satellite radio, an Audiovox PNP3/car kit bundle and the boombox from CircuitCity.com. It successfully updated channels, then activated.

If I keep the antenna in the same spot sometimes antenna aiming mode displays fluctuation of Satellite signal between 7 segments and 3 segments and the unit works. But after a while it will fluctuate between 3 segments and 0 segments and begin displaying "Aquiring Signal" and be silent. I get no Terrestrial Signal at my location.

I can undersand if I was driving a car how I might loose signal from time to time. But the antenna is stationary. How can I sometimes get 7 segments and other times get 0 segments?

I have tried as many spots as possible. But 7 Sat segments is the best I can get.

Also the unit gets extremely hot. Audiovox tech support told me it is expected to get 150 degrees but it seems hotter than that. I am concerned it could start a fire. Although it will be handy come breakfast time

And the right channel doesn't work so it appears the boombox is at least defective and will have to be returned.

Do you think the radio is also defective or is this how satellite radios perform? for your help!

Blumpkin! You could be fined saying stuff like that!!!

My signal sucks at home, too. I don't really think it's defective, but I can't figure out a way to fix it.

You have to get your antenna in a better location...that's why we always say if you can...put the antenna outside, facing straight up.Because the satellites move the signal you get at 3:00 may not be the same strength at 4:00.

That's the miracle of the 3 Sirius moving SATS. Unless you put the antenna outside facing the proper direction, you'll always have this problem.

I can't even imagine the ordeal of putting that little thing on the roof and finding some way to get the wire through my house.

It really isn't that difficult. Once it's installed (also satellite dish installers will do it if you call them, especially private ones), it's easy to hide the wire. Nothing different than having cable TV or satellite TV in the house (with the wire going through).

It doesn`t have to be on the roof...It just needs a clear line of site.

Ditto. Many have built an "arm" outside their window facing the appropriate direction then mounted the antenna on the arm.
