Default Radio ID/ESN Cloning?

I hope this is allowed for dicussion.

Is there a known procedure for cloning radio ID's, so that you can take 2 recievers, clone one ID and receive signal on both?

Assuming this is for Educational Purposes Only...

Yeah. Probably. Then what? You would still have to call Customer Service and get your receiver(s) activated. Which means you would have to buy one legitimately, obtain one surreptiously, obtain the hacking hardware, risk damaging your legal receiver to hack its ID, sucessfully clone the ID, then subscribe and become activated, all to avoid paying an extra $7/mo.

Unless you have some sort of compulsion to avoid paying fees, I don't think its worth the skull sweat involved. Even people who steal satellite TV aren't dumb enough to pay for service, then steal service on extra receivers.

GEEZ!!!!!! I can't belive that someone actually asked this question. Like come on now just how cheap are ya not wanting to pay the extra $6.95 a month for the seconed reciver. Afterall you spend all that money on 2 recivers I would think you could afford the fee for the seconed reciver.

1. I think it's something that is an interesting idea. Just like hacking an xbox or my Motorola E815 , knowing that it can be done.
2. If I can shave an extra $7 on top of paying for the other 3 units I already pay for, it would be nice. Not to mention that I already think Sirius owes me for having 3 units on account with them (but thats only my personal feeling).
3. I do enjoy tinkering with technology, and this is an interest to me.

As far as "stealing" service and having it traceable, well it's satellite is an interesting technology, and tracing it is near impossible, since it's only communicating one way with the recievers.

I just thought it was a shot in the dark, turns out all the lights are off.

SCB usually has a point. At the top of his head. I really like his response to my long-winded answer. LOL!

I did drop the ball on one thing... There are a lot of tinkerers on this board who aren't out to steal, but just can't stop themselves from taking stuff apart and making it do something that Sirius, God, and nature did not intend it to do. If that is your motivation... Go for it! I'll even wish you good luck. But. XM and Sirius are large corporations with many long-toothed, blood-thirsty lawyers. They are businesses that provide a service for money. A lot of thought went into making the receivers and signal... not impossible, but so difficult to hack into that, monetarily, it's not worth it.

If it was worth it, there would probably be a lot of Canadian web sites with kits and instructions.

When you steal the service, that just means Sirius is loosing more money.

that in itself makes it worth beating the system, in my eyes.
i see cloning the ID's like cloning a mac address of a NIC.

If satellite radio went to Europe, (more specifically Russia) we would have a hacked version pretty quick. I know they're good at finding ways around obstacles ( I can say this, I am from Russia originally ).

In any case, I'll keep looking, and post any findings, as I'm sure I'm not the first to ponder this.

I'm not sure how they're losing money. I'm not taking away from their bandwidth or service. The signal is broadcast to anyone who can receive it, and they already take enough of my money.

If it cost $50.00 a month to add an extra receiver, I think we'd see a fairly healthy black market industry cloning Sirius receivers.. But at 7 bucks it's hardly worth it

That's exactly the thoughts of people who steal internet, cable, satellite TV, etc. and that is how they get busted (some of them).

You are taking away money because they are loosing that $7 you are supposed to be paying.

I'm likely the person who knows the most about the internals of the Satellite Radios outside of SIRIUS Employees (who I'm sure won't be seen here.)

It is likely that there is a way to program in a SID into the device, and that this is a part of the chipset. But I'm sure there are a number of safe guards to disallow radio cloning. From what I've seen and know, the SID is programmable only once using either a fusble link system or more likely a PROM (Programmable but only once.)

The only official way to get free service is to purchase a LifeTime Plan. But we don't promote or discuss hacking SIRIUS to get free service on these boards.
