Default Do the Magnetic Antenna's survive the drive thru car wash ?

Just installed my Sirius Sat radio and antenna. With that self adhesive rubber that covers the wire from the antenna, you can not remove before going thru the car wash.
Just would like to know if any one has had first hand experience with theirs in the car wash. The ones with the large rollers that go over the roof down the rear window and trunk, did it survive without being ripped out.

Thanks

We use a touchless car wash and haven't had any problems so far. But I did not use the rubber on the antenna wire either.

Mine's good too. It looks like the "tail cover" may be loosening up on mine though. If it eventually comes off, I'll just reposition the antenna furhter back on the roof so there is no tail. Had my XM antenna like that without any problems.

I've used both the bigger, bulky antennas and the Terk SIRMINI on my vehicles. I've gone through both touchless and non-touchless car washes and the antenna has never moved. And in most car washes, I still get the satellite signal

Do yourself and your car's paint a favor and just take it off. Yes it will survive, but dirt does get under them which basically turns into sand paper on your paint.

Or worse, if you leave it on too long and your car has questionable paint (such as Subaru) it may actually take paint with it when you do have to remove it, like what happend to my Forester.

As a result, I make it a habit to remove my antennas on a weekly basis to clean under them.

No problem. Just would hate to see it happen to someone else. That little bit of laziness cost me $100 at the paintless dent removal place to have the three chips repaired.

No problem here either. I think I've only been through touchless though so I won't speak for the rag-swashing ones.

must be just me. my antenna has been knocked around a few times by the drying step when using the touchless car wash... luckily the tail w/ adhesive tape has saved it from being blow off completely...

Default Do the Magnetic Antenna's survive the drive thru car wash ?

Thanks everyone for your Antenna, car wash experiences

Maybe I should not chance it and move it into the Truck before making the drive through.I have not seen the touchless type of car wash in my area.

Does anyone know if those Antenna rubber tails are sold seperately and where ?

Many thanks

Default Some antennas better than others

I have the XVAO2 antenna that comes with the Xact kits and the Sirius Connect Tuners. This is my second XVA02. My first the wire frayed at the end. I detail cars in my spare time and mostly wash my own car myself. Although I have taken it through the car wash a few times. I wouldn't do it too much.

For me I like to have my antenna at the inside edge of my trunk, and all I do is tuck it inside while the car is being washed. I then clean the antenna itself and the underside of it. But I will warn again this antenna that I have is much more lilkely to fray at the end of the wire than the SIRMINI or our Replacement antenna.

You are so concirned with your $50 antenna. How about giving you car a nice hand wash. Go buy a Sirius boombox and listen to some big 80's and break out a sponge.

Another option is the new SIGMA antenna.
