Default Bad to mount antenna inside on dashboard?

Why do I hear people saying that it is bad to mount the antenna inside? I tried it inside on my front dashboard and rear and get great reception and no buffering. Is it bad to mount it inside, dangerous, or dangerous to my health, because satellate is beaming inside my car? I also hear that it needs a ground plane. What is a ground plane? It still works even if it isnt attached to metal so what is the problem?

Thanks

Without having a 16 inch diameter of metal around the bottom, it is less likely to get a bounced signal from the surface below it in a fringe area. Also inside a car its likely to get noise from stuff in your car like a fuzz buster or jammer and it could suffer blind spots where if it was on your roof it wouldnt. The signal is just a 2 giga hertz signal like what cell phones, wifi, and dish networks and other ways of communication I didnt mention.

Occured to me, tinted windows, could they block the signal?

if it's not broken don't fix it. I have a tsx and don't plan to mess up the looks by putting an antenna on the roof and will put mine on the front dash too.

I have a nav system and the GPS antenna is made into the rear window an it works perfect, even with metalic tint on the inside. There should be no reason why the sirius antenna in the same place should not also. If moving the antenna 1 foot make that much difference the technology is marginal to begin with, I'll let you know hw my install goes.

So it is okay to mount the antenna inside? I have tint and I still get recption. I do not get any popping noise. The sound is great. Im just worreid if it is dangerous or dangerous to my health if I put it inside. Also what is a ground plane?

Thanks

It has absolutely nothing to do with any increased health risk, whoever told you that. You can have the antenna up your *** and your not receiving anymore signal than what already exists! lol

A ground plane is required for roof mount antenna. The metal roof of your car acts as an amplification method for terrestrial repeater signals. Satellite reception has nothing to do with having a ground plane.

It is not recommended to put an antenna IN your car because your cars roof could block the signal, depending on what your orientation of the car is to the satellites. If you have a very slanted window, it can work well. But, it will affect reception in areas that would rely on a signal from a repeater, for instance, downtown Dallas or Chicago.

I have mine on the back dash and only have problems when I'm waiting in a covered drive thru area like the bank or fast food places. I do also have a very slanted back window. Once the low profile antennas come out I may mount one on the roof, the ones out now are just so huge. Next weekend I have an out of state wedding to go to, I'm interested in seeing how the reception holds up. Later this summer I plan on drivng to Seattle and giving it a real test.

The only danger to your health is an Addiction to Sirius. Symptons may include: Unable to leave car till favorite song is over, No longer be able to tolerate FM, And an Increased Likeing for music the way it was ment to be

I have mine in my highly slanted Saturn back window with no signal problems at all.

With the antenna placed on the front dash, I drove a Ford Focus from Northern California to Lincoln, Nebraska and back. Nothing but flawless reception.
