if its the big one run by Allan Sniffen (aka "the Dentist"), there is definitely some history to why they are so strict about message topics... Fans of Howard and Opie & Anthony have tried (sometimes succeeding) to crash his board quite a few times when negative things were said on there about either show...

Also, that boards setup isn't that advanced (or it wasn't - I haven't been on there recently) - so it isn't feasible to have sub-topics... So EVERY message is in the main room... So the sysop needs to be careful on what he allows...

Plus, its the "New York Radio" board, so its quite understandable why he wouldn't want satellite talk... If it satellite and relates directly to the NY market, I'm sure he'll allow it - but he's had too many "Satellite Radio rulez, FM Radio droolz" messages...

This Allan Sniffen Guy is a dictator when it comes to that board, but he's fairer than most give him credit for... He's just trying to keep his board running, on-topic, and uncluttered... (Granted, he sure could use an upgrade to his board software and FM does indeed drool... LOL)

I read Sniffen's board and haven't seen that threat; in fact Sniffen himself often comments about satellite radio. He is definitely not big on satellite but I've only seen him say he doesn't want typical "fanboy posts", i.e. "O&A (or) Howard sucks!/ O&A (or) Howard rules!". Also, Sniffen has always allowed posts he disagrees with to stay up for only a few days before eventually deleting them.

I have given up on posting on NYMB. Allan removes posts for no reason at all. An example was that someone recently became aware of the format flip that just happened on WNEW. Found the new logo for the new format posted it and few people, including myself, replied. He deleted it without any reason. He normally would allow any speculation about an upcoming format change. It seemed he knew about it and was asked to keep it quiet thus removing all posts regarding Fresh 102.7

WNEW 102.7 the biggest screw up in NYC radio history started with the end of its rock format.I told booker at "blink" the station would FLOP,it did....and Fresh will too.Imagine a radio station reinenting itself 3 times as the same exact thing. This station did it Fm radio should be scared! With formats like Blink1,2 and now 3 FRESH!102.7) They think they can get away with a woman demographic station in NYC?.All they did is relabeled it as FRESH ,it is the same BORING format.FM is a dead medium.Wether it be XM,sirius or the ipod,Fm IS in trouble.Cookie cutter formats are boring ,who wants to hear the same 20 songs day in and day out?
They should do more exciting formats like Pirate 102.7 we play anything- with 25 songs in a row.You can not compete with commercial free, baby. When they reinvent their product,it will probably be too late.I see more and more sat radio antennas every day here in the NJ/NY area.cool!

That format change at WNEW was probably one of the worst kept secrets in NY radio history. Personally, I don't get the 'Fresh' format...but I am not in the 25-54 female demographic, so I'm probably not supposed to 'get it'...and IMHO, that's the big problem. They are basically going after the same audience as the Mix format...or maybe after PLJ a little...I am sure they'll tweak things, and maybe it will get better over time.

In any event, Sniffen is a bit inconsistent with his moderating, to say the least. I can appreciate that he edits out inflammatory or totally off topic posts, and he tries to cater the board to his circle of NY radio insiders. Bottom line is that it's his board and he runs it his way. There are other boards that cover NY radio that are not as tightly moderated.

Are you kidding?

We have had fanboys of tape. Reel-to-reel, 1 7/8 IPS, by-gosh tape!

The fact of the matter is that, we who subscribe to satrad and are willing to shell out our hard earned bucks do so for a reason that the folks at terrad can't or won't understand. Those same reasons will probably doom HDRadio, unless the Government decides to interfere.

Basically, we are the expressway of radio, while terrad is the interstate; would you rather pay or sit in traffic. I remember my brother telling me that no one would pay for radio. That was three or four years ago. Nowadays, there are close to 14 million nobodies. A small chunk of what terrad gets, but you have to wonder why they are so scared of satrad.

All that aside, people listen to terrad for a number of good reasons. Local news, traffic, and weather, I suspect, are the best. The commercials don't bother them enough to shell out moola for the equipment and subscriptions. They don't want to install equipment on a vehicle that they don't own.

I listen to the local stations driving to work. I pretty much only use my Sportster Replay on long trips in the car. All the rest of the time, it is in a boombox in my bedroom. So I won't be joining any bashfests of terrad. I won't be praising it much, either.

Frankly, I won't be praising Sirius, either. They get money from me because I enjoy the service they provide. However, I am unimpressed with Sirius' ability to adapt to a changing market. I am concerned that, with the modicum of success they've achieved, they will be inspired to jack up their rates with no warning or justification.
