The fact of the matter is that, we who subscribe to satrad and are willing to shell out our hard earned bucks do so for a reason that the folks at terrad can't or won't understand. Those same reasons will probably doom HDRadio, unless the Government decides to interfere.
Basically, we are the expressway of radio, while terrad is the interstate; would you rather pay or sit in traffic. I remember my brother telling me that no one
would pay for radio
. That was three or four years ago. Nowadays, there are close to 14 million
nobodies. A small chunk of what terrad gets, but you have to wonder why they are so scared of satrad.
All that aside, people listen to terrad for a number of good reasons. Local news, traffic, and weather, I suspect, are the best. The commercials don't bother them enough to shell out moola for the equipment and subscriptions. They don't want to install equipment on a vehicle that they don't own.
I listen to the local stations driving to work. I pretty much only use my Sportster Replay on long trips in the car. All the rest of the time, it is in a boombox in my bedroom. So I won't be joining any bashfests of terrad. I won't be praising it much, either.
Frankly, I won't be praising Sirius, either. They get money from me because I enjoy the service they provide. However, I am unimpressed with Sirius' ability to adapt to a changing market. I am concerned that, with the modicum of success they've achieved, they will be inspired to jack up their rates with no warning or justification.
