Effective January, they're changing their name to Biggby Coffee since "Beaner" is a slur against Hispanics.

So, is "Beaner's" offensive?

I just asked a girl from Mexico if she was offended by the term "beaner". She said, "Huh?". She had no clue what the term "beaner" even meant.

Why would a girl from Mexico know what "beaner" means? Do you know what "laowai" or "gabacho" mean?

He would know "gabacho" ("laowai" is Chinese). That's my point. Most people don't know the words used to describe them in other countries.

My wife and another teacher once did a skit about keeping the school clean. Their character names were Spic and Span, like the cleaner. You can guess where the problem came up...

Who says she lives in the states? badmotherfarker said she was a girl from Mexico. Lots of girls from Mexico don't live in the states. Most, in fact.

Let me clarify... born in Mexico but lived in the US for pretty much her entire life. She just didn't know that "beaner" was a derogatory term.
