Political Asylum This is THE place to discuss the topics you'll hear about on POTUS, SiriusXM Patriot, FOX News Talk, SiriusXM Left, and The Power. But whether you lean left or right, keep it civil--the inmates don't run this asylum! Remember, let's try to be respectful to others opinions.

Default The Good Side of the Tea Party

I read an article on the AP this morning:

Republican Party conservatives give business a hard time on transportation, other issues - The Washington Post

It shows that at least some of the Tea Partiers aren't just fronts for the Koch brothers and other monied interests. The author seems to be trying to spin it against the Republicans, but it had the opposite effect on me. I want Congress to question corporate welfare bills. I want us to re-evaluate how much help we give businesses, especially those that fund our elections.

So, good job, Republicans.

I've said it again and again--who can be against low taxes and responsible government? For people taking care of themselves to the extent possible? For personal freedoms?

But that's not what the GOP or the Tea Party stand for. Some may say it, but few really mean it.

Republicans are good for the country because they remind us that Americans are strong, capable and good at their core. Democrats are good for the country because they remind us that there are things beyond the control of the little man--namely, corporations--that need regulating for the common good, and that it's our shared responsibility to see that everyone gets a fair shake.

That's kind of my point. If either side held true to what they preach, it would be a different politics we'd have.

I refuse to take any party seriously that takes people like Palin and Bachman seriously.

I've always said we need a viable third party in this country. That's never been more true today.

The problem is that americans want simple and painless answers. Anyone who would make a decent candidate would never have a chance because he/she would have to talk to americans like they're actually grown ups. Jimmy Carter still gets mocked today for telling americans that they need to consume less - a shocking statement, I know.

If you're so concerned about the deficit, then I'm sure you're all for letting the Bush tax cuts expire?

As I had said before I don't mind paying more, if they commit to a balanced budget where they don't spend any more than they bring in. Problem is there is no budget, they spend what they spend.

Cut the waste, quit bailing out people, fix the tax codes, remove the loop holes, everyone pays at least 10% of all income, and make it go up from there. I don't mind paying more, but I want everyone to pay something.
