The private sector can't do it, though. That should be obvious by now. Basic health care (i.e. don't cough your tuberculosis on my or my family) is a national infrastructure issue, like roads. Without it the rest of capitalism is punished because it devotes too many resources to overlapping competing systems and profit sources that benefit no one outside the health insurance industry.
Private health insurance should be available, but it can't be our only option. That creates a feedback loop that leaves us with some of the highest medical costs and worst care in the industrialized world.
