Default Rumor Update: Sirius XM BlackBerry App coming by week's end

The rumored Sirius XM BlackBerry App was supposed to have been released by end of January, but here we are in February with no app in sight. What gives?

According to Orbitcast sources, in addition to a comment posted here, the BlackBerry App is in the final phases of being released and is planned to be made public by the end of this week. The comment specifically mentions February 4th, but other sources have said that date may get shifted slightly.

As we've seen in the past, Mel likes to have product/feature releases just before earnings calls. So the early-February date makes sense, especially since Sirius XM Radio Inc. has said that they will release their full-year 2009 financial results "in February 2010." The timing would be perfect if launched in the first week of this month.

Sources have said that this app is pretty much the same as the iPhone App. I wouldn't expect that Howard Stern would be included in this app (which, supposedly, is not a limitation imposed by Sirius XM but rather from Howard's side).

Either way, all we can do at this point is wait.

I'm just not interested in this.

I have Sirius where I need it, in my car and house.

Before I had an SL2 I would use my phone often to listen to Howard, Bubba, and music. It was nice carrying just one device, but it did suck down the batteries pretty quick. With working out in the field the normal work/home/office setup didn't work all that well for me. I could see some benefit for a few, but most no, especially if there is no howard channels.

With Howard Stern weaseling out as much money as he can muster to the detriment of the company, I wouldn't be surprised if he's not re-signed. Then they will have nothing to worry about.

Then I could save a couple hundred bucks a year. sweet.

I forgot about no Howard on the app, so it's a no-go for me too.

I'm already paying $2.99/month for the Premium Internet stream. So, the more option available to me, the better. My iPod Touch is not always within range of wifi. My Blackberry more or less is. This is great news!! The no Howard thing is a bummer, but I'll deal with it.

There are ways around the no Howard on the app thing. I have two lifetimed radios and with that I'm grandfathered for free 32k Internet. The 32k works perfect for me. Even if I did upgrade to get premium Howard would not be on my Ipod Touch. So I use another app to listen to him for free on that and my Palm Pre when I have to. I don't feel bad about it either. I've invested a lot of money in Sirius/XM. I(we) should be able to have Howard on our phones. Just my 2 cents. If anyone wants to know what app I'm talking about just PM me.
