Same thing for Joe. You can't not follow up and something this big and then go into a recruits home and preach the things these coaches preach. By the way Joe knew Sandusky was still coming on campus all these years later and never said a word. You can't do that. I have nothing against Joe or Penn State. I feel for their fans and their University.
The issue of students selling memorabilia should have never been an issue in the first place. It's their property. They should do what they want with it. The NCAA has too much power over that stuff

I think everyone gets what Paterno means, but the bottom line he is human and he made a tragic mistake that will forever over shadow his legacy. He has no one to blame for that but himself!

I can tell you one thing If I reported something to my supervisor and I seen no action and the guy I reported continued to be in my office. You can bet your royal ass I'd be doing some follow up. Joe never did!
We don't know the whole story. No one does. In this country we're too quick to judge & hang people before we know all the facts.

They had a grand jury investigate this for 3 years, BS we don't know. They know enough that these men were charged and the university made the decision it did.

I think some folks are too quick to give folks a pass and allow sexual creeps to keep molesting!

DAB, you are lumping people together when you shouldn't be. The conversation is about Paterno and he is not a "sexual creep" nor is anybody suggesting that they should keep molesting. Also, Paterno wasn't charged with anything nor will he be (according to authorities). And just because the authority did an investigation doesn't mean that you and I know the full story.

What the Grand Jury did find out was he found out, he then went to tell his friend the head of security for the college, you can't tell me he didn't know the ball was completely dropped when Sandusky was still there?

So you know about something like this, yes he told his superior but they did NOTHING about it. The logical next step is to then go to the authorities (which should have been done the same time he told his superiors)

Penn State is all about their football legacy, Sandusky while a freaking pervert who deserves to rot in hell, he was an amazing defensive coach, who was considered the next to take over for Paterno, This whole situation stinks over a college that couldn't handle the fact they might not be the best in college football and decided to overlook the fact one of their own was diddling boys.

What does not being the best in college football have to do with anything?

No sir I am not. He was a mandatory reporter and he only told his supervisor and did not report it to the police and social services. He then never bothered to follow up after the fact. By his own admission he should have done more. I never said Joe was a sexual creep , but his inaction allowed one to creep on kids for a decade. He does not have to be charged to have failed in his responsibility. We know enough to clearly say what I just did.

The way I initially read "I think some folks are too quick to give folks a pass and allow sexual creeps to keep molesting!" as people in this thread were the folks and Paterno was the creep. I reread it and don't believe that is what you intended.

I agree with that. It was their stuff and they sold it. If they were getting paid by agents and all that why would they sell their own stuff? If Tressel would have came clean from the beginning it would have been ok but he didn't. He lied and covered it up.

This is what I mean about the Paterno thing. Big Ten takes Paterno name off trophy - College Football - Rivals.com

I don't think it's right, but because children are involved this stuff is going to happen and be remembered.

Default Joe Paterno near death, reports say

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno is in serious condition after experiencing complications from lung cancer, a family spokesman says. But reports on the Web paint a graver picture.

Paterno is “gravely ill” and “near death,“ reports The Citizen’s Voice of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., saying Paterno’s wife Sue called in family and friends after her husband said he wanted to say a final goodbye.

OnwardState.com reports that the 85-year-old coach was taken off a respirator Saturday morning.

BlueWhiteIllustrated the Rivals.com website dedicated to cover Penn State sports, reports that Paterno is in bad shape and extended family has been called to State College due to his declining health.
