Default iPod Touch Gen2 (The Funnest iPod Ever)

I have an iPod Touch Gen1 and I've opted not to upgrade. The only real difference is that this newer version has volume buttons on the left top side. Plus it has a mini speaker so that you can't play games and or listen to podcast or even music (this speaker is only for very casual listening). The design is a little sleeker and of course they did drop the prices on the 8, 16 and 32gb versions, ranging from $229 to $399.

The recent release of the 2.1 software basically gave all use IPT Gen 1 owners the same features as the Gen2. An example is Genius, with just a few taps, the new Genius feature creates a playlist of tracks in your library that go great together. I really like this feature and find I use it a great deal.

To be honest I basically use my IPT as a PDA. It allows me to track my apointments, schedule events/meetings, receive and respond to my email, check my stocks, find out what the weather is doing and even look up phone numbers, zip codes and with Google maps it even allows me to figure out where I am and how to get where I am going.

The applications available have really enhanced the useability of the IPT. Being a music nut, I really have enjoyed the AOL, Pandora applications. But those are only a couple out of about 10 that I have installed. On the weekends I track NFL and NCAA Football games with updated stats and the almost live play by play action is really sweet.

Now the only draw back to all this fun, you must have a wifi connection. Fortunately for me almost everywhere I go I have a wifi connection so this device works out well in my day to day walk through life.

Now if they come out with a 64g IPT gen 2 or 3, I am on it!

I have a 1st gen touch. I travel a lot for my job so it is nice to use in airports and on planes. I generally stay with the small airports (where they actually have free wifi) so I can keep a connection until we begin to taxi. It is also great during long, boring, meetings. I can stream YouTube without anybody knowing that it is me.

I just saw a commercial and they were playing games on it. Was that the 2nd or 1st gen? I don't have any games one mine. Then again, I haven't downloaded any apps at all.

Download some free games from the App store. They are great. I have a bunch on my iPhone.

If you are updated to the 2.1 software, you can download any of the free games and they will work even on the 1st gen iPod Touch. There is a Match game on there that I like to play around with. Its a game of memory.

I got the 2nd generation a couple of days ago, pretty freakin' sweet. The apps are amazing and I think they're just scratching the surface of what this device is capable of...

Man DAWG, I have been tempted, but there just isn't enough to it to make me want to jump just yet. Now had they come out with a 64gb version, I'd been on it like white on rice.

Glad to see you made it abord DRC, SISO

Too bad the iPhone 3g doesn't have the nice back like the new Touch. The plastic scratches a lot, so I have read.

The iPod Touch's back scratches REALLY easy as well. But I agree, it isn't as nice.

I have a few scratched on my iPhone back due to taking a the incase slider off when there was a small rock in there. Ugh. Now it's naked.

I love the InvisibleShield:

http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/index.php

I have it on my Razr 2 and my 80 GB Ipod Classic. It's a bit of a pain to put on, but it does a great job of keeping things scratch-free. Plus it lets you keep the good looks of your Ipod. I always hated the thought of hiding my Ipod in some bulky case.
