I didn't even read the info actually. I just posted my point of view on the netbook -vs- iPad thing.

If you click through the article mrpacs linked to the source, there are very interesting numbers. It shows the iPad stealing market from netbooks, mp3 players and desktops. Half of the mp3 players and desktops not being bought are from Apple.

Oh I can imagine that. Certainly some consumers will ditch their netbooks for an iPad. The netbook was a great bridge, for many people, until the iPad came out.

I found this article too. Reports of netbook sales death greatly exaggerated, says analyst - Computerworld

The fact that a lot of notebooks running full Windows 7 are being priced at $500 or lower has to have an effect too.

I agree, I do not think this really comes down to being a battle between the two. I think some will look them both over and pick the one that suits their needs best.

An iPad will not take the place of a notebook. If you are getting a netbook just for browsing and doing email. Then the iPad is a viable choice over a netbook.

Most of my heavy lifting, I mean work related stuff 9 out of 10 times will be done on a desktop.

Since having my iPad I have decided to Ebay my MacBook Pro because I just do not need it. I was using it basically for the things I am now doing on my iPad.

Just reading this tonight and they must have updated it, because now it says Netbook.

I think with the release of iOS4.2 the iPad becomes even more viable as you'll be able to do word processing, editing of documents with the ability to print them. There are apps for that now, but most of them are pretty crappy and not very reliable. Built in printing certainly helps I know I will use that feature.

I often use my iPad to take notes during meetings. I also often make notes during the course of my site visits when I find deficiences which I like to address in staff meetings. This is just so much more easy than dealing with a netbook.

I also use it for leasure reading and watching HD Videos via Netflix. Display is great much better than most Netbooks.

Goes to show that while overall the iPad may not be able to do everything a Netbook can, that what it can do very well, is very appealing even at the premium price that it comes with.
