Default Mobile Me

Help talk me into it. I'm not quite sure what it will do for me. Currently I use Gmail and an exchange mailbox on my iPhone and iPad. My contacts and calendar come from my exchange account so that is kept up to day via push. So what will mobile me do for me that I don't already have?

3 words...Find My iPhone.

That app alone is worth the MobileMe purchase.

Apple - MobileMe - Find your iPhone or iPad.

Other than Find my iPhone, there really isn't much there if you already have email accounts that you like, or webspace available to you. If you are looking to consolidate calendars and mail and all of that in a way that doesn't take a lot of work or require you to be technical, it can be an attractive option.

My phone is always near me. While this would have been useful with my old phone, I find I am nearly teathered to my iPhone.

Seconded, this has saved my ass so many times it isn't funny. Plus the push email and push contacts and calendar. I just renewed my subscription for another year.

I like:
- syncing of contacts
- syncing of calendar
- syncing of settings
- iDrive (to share files with others)

Yes, you could do it with Google synching and other methods but I'm tired of tracking down how to make things work and want them to 'just work'. So I went with it.

If I update an address on my phone it's reflected within seconds on my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. Same with the other way around with the other synching features.

Basically: It works and I don't have to screw with it.

Now some will say: Save the $100 and just synch with Google and do this or do that. I get that. I used to do it. The $100 is cheap compared with trying to make some other process work (or worse, sort-of work).

Isn't the @me.com email address the only email that is synced? I suggest you consider a TRUE Exchange environment. I use Sherweb for $8.95/month. I get a free copy of Outlook 2010, Outlook Web Access and no need to create a silly @me.com email addy. As for Find My Phone, pony up the $4.99 and purchase The TekTrak Pro app.

So it sounds like it won't do anything for me other than the find my phone thing. However, I don't need that because I am never without it. That is one of the pitfalls of a company paid cell.
