Default Emasculating Richard and Sal, Again

Yesterday Howard reverted to a familiar pattern by threatening to fire Richad and Sal for worthlessness. He used to do it to Stuttering John all the time, once just when John thought he was becoming a social friend of Howard's. He tried a version of it on Fred years ago and Fred walked out... He used to lay it on Gary with Robin cackling in agreement... Of course Richard and Sal aren't producing much that gets played on the air... first, they are not that creative and not that funny (for me), Second, I think that have to get permission from their off-air telephone victims to replay anything on air... Then they have to go through Howard and Gary... Also, there is not that much time to play their amateurish stuff.. Howard has to do some Sirius ranting and miscellaneous ranting, often has a guest, has to do the Howard news presented by three people, has to do the Robin news, has to take some calls, the wrap up show recap, has to do some commercials for a cheat-on-your-wife company and a how to settle you income tax debt with the IRS company, has to wallow in JD's inarticulateness for a while.. and other stuff... there is no time left..

I heard his discussion with/about Richard and Sal.

I thought Howard revealed a lot. It was obvious to him that their airtime and personal engagement with him was severely diminishing and very noticeable. Howard just didn't think they were producing very much, which is probably the case, and they were purposely keeping a low profile.

I'm curious to see how this plays out.

Howard used to do a lot of skits... almost always with one lisping "homo". Remember his "radio theater" or something like that? Since the phony phone calls are getting kind of tired, I am surprised Sal and Richard are not producing skits. Both of those guys have done that sort of thing before (Sal did a funny one years ago, before he was an employee, of Beth and her father planning how to fleece Howard. Surely a no-no now.) But I suspect that Howard has put the kabosh on skits. That is something those assholes could do that might be mildly funny.

Damn, there's just no time for:
1) Sybian rides
2) Miss Howard TV
3) Strippers
4) Porn stars
5) Gross-out stunts involving dead fish, and/or Hi-Pitch Erik's package, and/or balogna.

Whoever thinks the Howard Stern Show is anything like what I just mentioned really should read the part I bolded.

(Let it play, just don't look at the gross image.)

i agree, i wish Sal and richard were put to work to do something outside phony calls and dumb street interviews. Fred has long retired from writing relevant bits and skits based on topical news stories, sal and richard should be putting ideas together to parody public figures or news stories, but sadly Sal is too dim wittied to come up with anything himself that isnt blatantly racist and Richard would need some direction from someone else, so in that aspect they don't make a good team since neither of them can take the iniative to do this. Maybe if they teamed up with Benjy or Had Fred coach them it'd work, but I don't think they will be making anything like that soon. It's a shame, it's wasted talent. It'd be cool to hear new songs and bits on relevant topics instead of tradio call 1, 2, and 3 ad naseum.

I am still on the show from 2/28, but how can howard say richard/sal aren't producing enough material? its howard who decides what calls to play and what not to play. and howard won't let them get their own show despite lack of live programming on the two channels. and last I checked, howard doesn't do any more bits and stunts. so where exactly do richard and sal fit into this new "evolved" show these days?

I understand what ur saying, but fred is 1/2 way retired along with howard. and benji??????? that hack is terrible. I wouldn't want him being my comedy coach if I were either richard or sal.

you can't blame these two for coasting tho. they are just following howard's lead by not giving a f*ck anymore.

Richard and Sal are probably working as much as they ever did. Howard is just exaggerating or even manufacturing controversy for the show because he thinks that is what the audience wants to hear.

I believe Fred is a team player (unless it involves humiliating him) I believe he would do whatever was asked of him. If Howard wants him to write a skit, he will write a skit.. I don't think he is a lazy guy. I think it is 100% up to Howard. On the other hand, Fred is not going to act on his own initiative if he thinks his stuff is going to get rejected or just not used. I love Fred. He's got a super quick mind and makes many funny comments. He appreciated Artie (love to see those two partner up for a daily show). Having said that, I rarely found Howard's skits of yesteryear very funny. Since he could not do outright dirty stuff, he had to strain to be ourtrageous other ways. Don't know Fred's role or Jackie's role in those skits. I think Howard was probably the main creative force. For all his brilliance (and he is brilliant), Howard loves bathroom humor.
