Default Geek Time observation

Just tuned into the replay of Geek Time on H101... the lovely Alison Haislip is on talking video games - she's talking Portal 2, she's talking L.A. Noire, she's talking the Left For Dead franchise... and none of the Geek Time guys have any idea what's she's talking about, hahahaha!

Ralph countered with talking about some iPad puzzle game called Trains...

Just struck me as funny.

Does that really suprise you? I think it was TSS Taylor that said the geek time guys only talk about things they own and like. So its basically Apple, comic book movies and Fringe. It's hard to listen when they won't acknowledge other things.

They should hire some real geeks. All they know is Apple and comic books and that's it.

Or change the name to 'The berry faced Apple and comic book fun time happy hour'? Well, its two hours but you get the point.

u can't be geek time if u dont know video games. but usually, ralph, or john don't talk video games. those segments are done by steve brandano or someone else.

can't wait for LA Noire. I'm definitely getting that tomorrow!

Jason is an Xbox gamer, but not to the extent that he knows anything about that industry. Or, any industry, for that matter -- you'll notice that even with comics and TV shows, he tends to reveal that he only catches on to something after someone recommends it to him.

Kevin Kraft was a good, knowledgeable guy to have as the gamer geek, but he has been off the show since moving to L.A., unfortunately.

The problem with Geek Time is that they all like the *concept* of hosting a geek show, but they don't really grasp what it entails. Jon obviously knows a lot about TV, but that's maybe the least-geeky aspect of the show.

I never played those games either but consider myself a gaming geek. Just more along the lines of AVGN than the newer stuff. Who has time to spend on these games anymore? You need hours a day to get anywhere.

The show is a really good idea but I think it needs to be tweaked so that it lives up to the name. With all the tech news (mainly apple) talk, it feels like a group of guys reading reddit on the radio.

In order of "geeky-ness" I'd rank them as follows...

Ralph - even though he's an Apple whore, he's way into collectables and that makes him #1 geek.
Steve - a very close 2nd. He loves comics, knows about movies coming out, and plays video games.
John - only for his TV knowledge.
Jason - "Hanger on"

I too will be getting L.A. Noire tomorrow. Looks really good. One of the guys on the show needs to get a gamefly subscription so they can actually have a conversation with Alison.

How can anyone be an expert on all the different topics? Keeping up with all the TV news, Comic book news, Gadget News, Movie news and Video Game news is a lot. That's where having the experts in makes sense.

I thought L.A. Noire was set to be a sleeper hit. I didn't know how highly anticipated it was.

And despite it's flaws I like Geek Time. I don't care for TV talk since I barely watch any episodic television, but take that away and you have a lot less content.
