The price is not yet released but I am super excited to see another TOP Teir manufacturer entering the tablet market. Nothing creates better devices like competition and I am seriously considering buying one of these.

The teaser trailer can be found here:

Goobertron, my 6 year old desktop, suffered a hard drive failure a few weeks ago. She will not boot. I've extracted the data I need from her and believe it is time to move on, building a newer, sweeter desktop inside her old body.

I've been shopping around and I think I've found a sweet spot for price/performance with these:

CPU: Intel Core i5 760

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD4P

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)

System drive: Intel 80 GB X25M Mainstream SATA II Solid-State Drive (SSD)

Data drive: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s

Video: XFX HD-485X-ZDFC Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16

DVD: ASUS DRW-24B1ST

OS: Windows 7 Premium

I've got a giant power supply and SATA DVD burner in Goobertron that I can re-use. Buying from Amazon and Newegg, the cost will be a little over $1,100.

I've looked all over for pre-built systems that might be a better deal, but so far nothing comes close.

Now I just need to think of a new name. Boogertron? Troobergon? Uranus?

Acquired an old p-4 Dell from work and installed Xubuntu on it. Apparently my life isn't complicated enough and I need a reason to stay up all night working on a computer.

Fortunately, it's not a production machine. If (when) I break the install, I'll just start over.

It's very quick to boot. Easily 10x faster to boot than Windows XP was on that machine.

I have done a bit of work setting up playlists in WMP11. I would like to import them into iTunes so they can be used on the iPhone. Can I do this? I am already suspecting not given that iTunes does not share the same music directory. But it would save me a whole bunch of time. Anybody?

I am preparing for the eventual arrival of my iPhone4. One of the tasks is to put my music in iTunes. I had some music already purchased from iTunes and wanted to add my music collection. I figured all I had to do was point it to my music folder and it would index the music. Well, no. It copies it into its own folder. So now I have 2 * 9Mb of data stored -- one for everything else, and one for iTunes. Of course I had to increase partitian sizes all because Apple can't play in other playgrounds and has to have its own. Why does it need to have its own copy? A complete and total waste.
