Heh, I'm an old dude and I dig Opeth. (Got my tickets for their October St. Andrews show in Detroit already!)

That's the weird thing about some metal vocal styles - even in the same overall genre you can find quite a variation. And also goes to show how subjective taste is when it comes to music.

Slayer and Zombie were awesome last night. (Got there to late too see Exodus - dinner was more important!!). Interesting story - anyone who knows Pine Knob/DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston MI probably knows that they have a hard 11:00pm curfew for concert endings, with heavy fines for overages. (Small town, many homes near the outdoor venue that can hear the noise, etc. etc.). Anyhow, some technical difficulties had Rob Zombie starting later than expected. He came out and mentioned the curfew, and the fines, and said that instead of cutting the set short they were going to play a full set.

Throughout the set, he kept making jokes - "drum solo just cost me $3,000", etc. Band didn't wrap up and leave the stage until 11:20pm. I have NEVER encountered that EVER at a show there. I'm betting that he probably ended up paying $15,000-$20,000 in fines, if not more. Pretty impressive of him to say screw it, and give the fans a great show.

+1 for Rob Zombie!

Weird photo artifacting, thanks to what I think is a slowly dying phone. The camera appears to be the latest part infected with disease.

Awesome! I listen to most of these guys already!!!! A few I'm not familiar with though. I'm going to go through your list in more detail later when I have a few minutes.

I never would have thought of you as a metal guy.

Cool, Yea I don't look like a metal head. But yea I been to at least 3 Ozzfests, would have gone to more if they tour more then one city. I been to 2 out of the 4 Mayhem Festivals, I'm still a bit tick I couldn't attend Mayhem Fest couple of weeks ago, when it was here. Lack of funds and plus I just started a job, so I couldn't request the day off. But yea, I'm a metal head I love watching the mosh pit. But one thing I refuse is, to go into one. I know, I will get trampled and stomp on, because I'm one week dude! Plus the Native-American Indians here are one hell of a mosher, so stay out of their way!

Check out Wolfmother if you haven't already. Especially the first album (self-titled). They're not really metal like these other bands in this thread, but they do consider Black Sabbath as one of their influences.

Colossal is my favorite song

I got the Sepultura CD on Saturday and OMFG, it ROCKS so effin hard.

These guys are great. I'm glad I ordered the CD. And when I'm not running around like a madman, I'll have to look into these other groups.

I was going to say "Ask Wolfviper," so I'm glad he weighed in.

Also, check with HecticArt. His aww-shucks midwestern facade hides a demon, I fear.
