Had the same initial thoughts about Machine Head (started listening before seeing them open for Metallica), but "grew into" their aggressive vocals. Now it's a staple for good weight room bouts.

Heh, I'm an old dude and I dig Opeth. (Got my tickets for their October St. Andrews show in Detroit already!)
That's the weird thing about some metal vocal styles - even in the same overall genre you can find quite a variation. And also goes to show how subjective taste is when it comes to music.
Slayer and Zombie were awesome last night. (Got there to late too see Exodus - dinner was more important!!). Interesting story - anyone who knows Pine Knob/DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston MI probably knows that they have a hard 11:00pm curfew for concert endings, with heavy fines for overages. (Small town, many homes near the outdoor venue that can hear the noise, etc. etc.). Anyhow, some technical difficulties had Rob Zombie starting later than expected. He came out and mentioned the curfew, and the fines, and said that instead of cutting the set short they were going to play a full set.
Throughout the set, he kept making jokes - "drum solo just cost me $3,000", etc. Band didn't wrap up and leave the stage until 11:20pm. I have NEVER encountered that EVER at a show there. I'm betting that he probably ended up paying $15,000-$20,000 in fines, if not more. Pretty impressive of him to say screw it, and give the fans a great show.
+1 for Rob Zombie!

Weird photo artifacting, thanks to what I think is a slowly dying phone. The camera appears to be the latest part infected with disease.
