Default Damnit! Netflix is Screwed

Studios are starting to play hardball with Netflix - Jul. 11, 2011

This can't be good for the consumer.

In regard to streaming content.....

"Netflix has another year or two on most of these contracts, and then the game completely changes," says Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush Securities.

Pachter predicts Netflix's streaming content licensing costs will rise from $180 million in 2010 to a whopping $1.98 billion in 2012.

THAT'S "BILLION", FOLKS! Say "goodbye" to $11/month pricing plans

Netflix might be screwed, but so will the content providers.
Copyright owners and content providers really need to get with reality and price their product in a way that encourages legal consumption.

$11 is for 1 DVD-rental at a time, plus unlimited online streaming.

This.

I'd hate to see Google or some other huge company take over the market just because they have more money to blow on the outrageous price tag.

Dang that $11 charge is more of a screw you deal, that why if I did joined Netflix I was going to sign up for $8 plan, which was the only one I saw where you can stream and download unlimited movies.

And studios wonder why people torrent their movies, shows, music and so on. I have no sympathy for them now. All they do is want more and more and more.

The music industry is worse. Why should Apple, Google, Amazon...... have to pay a license fee for people who store and stream music they already own??? Thats crazy.

Screw over Netflix and people will just torrent or go to storage sites like Rapidshare.

Movie studios and music companies are stuck in the past. They need to figure out a better way to do business. They obviously think Netflix has too much power.

The media corporations are addicted to easy money from new physical formats. They've built their business models around selling us bits of plastic. They are scrambling to find a way to charge the same markup for digital distribution, but they will fail. All Netflix has to do is leverage its market position to produce original material. Then it doesn't need them, and they will come crawling back.
